20 days and counting to my first Spartan Race! Nervous, excited and crossing my fingers I don’t break or hurt anything on me – I guess my husband & friends too since they are all joining in on the shenanigans.
June of last year my hub signed up for a Spartan race in Jersey – I politely declined. I had a wedding to attend (ours) and I didn’t want to chance anything. His race was 4 miles long at a ski resort – hills, ropes, barbed wire, fire…you name it they had to do it! Sounds rough, right? Well, while watching this race I actually got inspired! All ages and sizes of people were doing it – teenagers to 70 year olds & skinny minis to those on the bigger side. That was motivating but the best part was seeing everyone help each other. I saw strangers helping people up roped walls, picking others up from the mud & encouraging anyone & everyone along the way.
With that said – I was SO fired up that we registered for a race awhile back & now it is taking place in 20 days (yikes)! The rad part is that this race is taking place at Citi Field – yes, the Mets stadium! The sound system will be pumping up tunes & the video boards will be showing live footage (do I need to get spray tanned for this?).
Here is one of the suggested workouts. I tried it this morning & was winded to say the least.
Strength Set (repeat 4x, 30seconds of recovery between sets):
- 1-minute plank
- 10 burpees
- 20 body-weight squats
- 8 pull-ups
- 20 jumping lunges (each side)
- 10-30 push ups
Then 5-8 25yard bear crawls & 5-8 25yard sprints
Clearly the pull ups & push ups were assisted for me & the bear crawl…I am sorry to whoever saw me do this at our gym! It wasn’t pretty.
Regardless of anything, my only hope is to have zero injuries & to cross the finish line with my hub & friends!
